Spring Showcase- April 24 at 7pm!
We are so excited for our upcoming Spring Showcase, “Singin’ in the Rain!” With performances from our Youth Choir and Community Choir, you won’t want to miss this family-friendly event for all ages! From Toto’s “Africa” to musical theater classics like “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” there’s something for everyone!
Following the performance, make your way through our local art gallery and enjoy some light refreshments while you have a chance to chat with the performers!
Tickets are only $5 for students (anyone with a valid student ID) and $15 for the general public. Group discounts available–please contact info@culturehouseca.org for more info!
Songs Without Words- June 13 at 4pm!
In “Song Without Words,” cellist Dylan Jowell and pianist John Kiunke embrace the classical tradition of using instrumental music to tell stories and to inspire the imagination of audience members of all ages! With narration and conversation, this engaging concert features not only beloved classics rich with imagery but also new compositions by both performers. Light refreshments and a meet and greet following the concert.

21st Century Bass Explosion- April 18
A solo double bass recital by Sacramento native Andrew Finley,this concert for all ages explored modern art music from the past 25 years. Drawing on influences from classical, jazz, and rock traditions, the program highlighted the evolving role of the double bass as a compelling solo voice in contemporary music.

Spring Showcase Art Gallery- Due April 17!
Artists wanted!! Open to all middle and high school students, you are invited to submit your artwork to be displayed in a Local Art Gallery and reception during our Spring Showcase on April 24 at 7pm.
All submissions will be eligible for cash scholarships ($50) supporting students in their continued pursuit of their art. Artwork submissions are due Friday, April 17.
The deadline for this submission has passed, but stay tuned for fall opportunities!


Scrapbooking Workshop- March 28
From creating an amazing color scheme to helpful lettering tips, this workshop was designed for students and adults looking to spend a morning creating memories and art! Thank you to everyone who was interested in this opportunity!

As seasons change and the weather get cooler, this event was a chance to slow down and reflect on how, amidst the constant rearranging of our lives, there are things we can hold on to—peace, hope, love, and each other. Congratulations to all our performers, writers, and artists who participated!

A big THANK YOU! to everyone who participated in our Community Clothes & Books Sale! It was a whirlwind weekend! Some highlights include:
- Receiving items from over 50 incredible donors and families!
- Running out of table space!
- All our amazing shoppers, from voracious readers to fashionistas!
- Raising funds to support our summer camps programs for students in the community!
- Sharing with other nonprofits in the community following the sale, including The Salt Mine Thrift Store, Fieldhaven Marketplace, the Lincoln Public Library, and local teachers & classrooms in the area!
We are so grateful for all the support!

Thank you for joining us for our Spring Showcase 2025! With performances by our Community Choir and Children’s Choir, there was something for everyone. From favorite movie hits (Wicked, anyone?) to pop favorites throughout the years, we enjoyed celebrating at this family-friendly event, followed by a reception and art gallery created by students from our after-school Foundry Art Club.

We had a delightful Strings Workshop and Masterclass with students from all over the greater Sacramento area. Congratulations to all who participated; we hope you gained some valuable insights from our clinicians.
And our Tea Time Recital was the perfect way to round out the afternoon as we enjoyed beautiful music and delicious refreshments, from old classics to new favorites. Thank you all for joining us! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

On Friday, November 22, our Community Choir performed a variety of folk songs from The British Isles to North America, followed by a reception and art gallery created by students from our after-school Foundry art club. Congratulations to our performers and art scholarship winners!
October 2024
Masterclass, 9:00am: Strings and vocal students in high school and college were invited to apply for our Strings & Songs Masterclass where they will gain valuable insights in technique and musicality as well as be considered for scholarships and the opportunity to perform on the evening program.
“Dream” Evening Recital, 7:00pm: With performances by our professional Masterclass Clinicians, it was an evening of dreams, memories, and beauty. With classical favorites from past and present composers such as Gabriel Fauré, Franz Schubert, Leonard Bernstein, Amy Beech, Florence Price, and more, we all enjoyed an unforgettable evening of music. And let’s not forget a couple familiar crowd favorites, like “I Dreamed a Dream” and “Dream a Little Dream of Me!”

Spring Showcase… Among the Stars!
The Culture House presented a marvelous evening of music with performances by our talented Children’s Choir and Community Choir, along with a stunning art gallery exhibit showcasing the work of local students! Highlights to come!
March 2024
We had a blast at our Sewing Workshop making pillow cases, tote bags, bean bags and more!
We had a few guided projects as well as materials for you to come in and work on your own project. This workshop was perfect for all ages and skill levels! Beginners learned new skills with our step-by-step projects, while more seasoned sewers enjoyed working on their personal creations.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for a day of creativity and community! We can’t wait for our next sewing adventure.


February 2024
We enjoyed a day of dancing, music, and all that jazz at our “Jive N’ Java” event! Thank you to everyone who joined us, and we look forward to seeing you next time!
Movement Workshop: This workshop taught ballroom basics and group dances to all ages and all abilities! We learned some cool new moves that are sure to impress our friends on the dance floor!
Coffee House Concert: With professional local musicians, guests enjoyed high-quality music and refreshments in a laid-back atmosphere. From classic love songs to jazz standards, from movie musical hits to modern-day pop favorites, there was something for everyone at this event!
January 2024
Our Writing Workshop returned in January as we learned more about the art of writing and explored together in a hands-on setting!
Diving into poetry and prose, attendees had the opportunity to warm up their writing muscles with some haikus, collaborate on some short stories, and share some writing they had done. We look forward to our next time together and hope you can join!

Saturday, December 9th from 10am-12pm: We enjoyed making snowman tea light ornaments, mod podge magnets, and reindeer graham cracker snacks at our “Christmas with The Culture House” Art Workshop! What a great way to celebrate the season together!

Celebrate! We had a joyous time with the culmination of our Fall 2023 semester! With wonderful performances by our choirs and amazing art created by our after-school clubs, this event was a snapshot of what The Culture House is all about– the arts, lifelong learning, and community. Strings & Songs Masterclasses & Recital:
Thank you to all who joined us for our Masterclass and Concert! Our strings students played wonderfully and experimented with new tips, tricks, and techniques during the Masterclass with our amazing clinicians. Congratulations also goes to our scholarship winners, Aaron and Hannah!

Jana Dykhuis
Jana Dykhuis, soprano, began her training in New Mexico with the Santa Fe Opera Young Voices. While attending Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jana earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree. After moving to North Carolina to teach, she continued her career in Jakarta, Indonesia, teaching and overseeing the fine arts department at Sekolah Pelita Harapan Kemang Village. While there, she earned a Master of Arts in Music and Worship before returning to the States.
Beyond her solo work, Jana has performed and toured with choral groups such as the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus, the Calvin College Alumni Choir, The Charlotte Master Chorale, and currently The Pops Chorale here in Placer County.
Jana hopes to inspire people of all ages to explore, create, and grow through arts education in our community.
Kathleen Gallagher-McLellan
Kathleen Gallagher-McLellan is the founder of Gallagher Violins, a Suzuki violin studio located in Sacramento, California. Founded in 2021. Her mission is to provide a violin studio that takes a holistic, nurturing approach to developing confidence and ease in the playing of young violinists through listening, repetition, and artistic commitment. She strives to foster her student’s unique personalities through the art and discipline of learning the violin.
When she isn’t teaching or playing with local orchestras, Kathleen enjoys camping, gardening, and reading novels.
Elena Bolha
Elena Bolha received her BA in Cello Performance from Virginia Tech, where she studied with Alan Weinstein and served as principal for the New River Valley Symphony. Now in Northern California, she has performed as principal of the Sacramento State Symphony and their Opera Theater, as well as for the Auburn Symphony, Music in the Mountains, Solano Symphony, and Opera Modesto. Her performing was recently lauded with first prizes in the Watson Chamber Music Competition and the Sacramento State Concerto Competition.
Elena previously taught for the Virginia Tech String Project, Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts, and is currently a graduate instructor for the Sacramento State String Project. She is a graduate assistant studying with Andy Luchansky at California State University, Sacramento and will graduate with her MM this fall.

We had a blast at our Writing Workshop as we explored the importance of story! From telling our own impromptu life stories with props to digging into our ‘why,’ from amusing story structure examples to a fascinating history of the story and language development, a wonderful time was had by all!
